As the Alaska winter months roll in, it’s important for homeowners to take proper care of their homes. With the colder temperatures and harsher conditions, it’s essential to make sure your house is in top shape to make sure it lasts through the winter and also maintain it's resale value without unnecessary additional improvements. 

Here are some tips for homeowners to take proper care of their home during the winter.

1. Check Your Roof: The winter months can bring heavy snow and ice, and it’s important to make sure your roof is in good condition. Check for any missing or damaged shingles, and make sure all gutters and downspouts are clear.

2. Insulate Your Home: Make sure your home is properly insulated to help keep the heat in and the cold out. Check all windows and doors for drafts and caulk any gaps or cracks. You can also add insulation to your attic to help keep the house warm.

3. Have Your HVAC System Checked: Have a professional come and check your furnace and other heating systems to make sure they are running properly. This will help ensure that your home stays warm and comfortable during the winter.

4. Clean Your Chimney: Make sure to have your chimney professionally cleaned at least once each year, and especially after long periods of no use.
